Preventive care

Preventive care is extremely important to maintain health and to detect possible diseases at an early stage. It helps affected persons to define an individual strategy to minimise their personal risk. 

 

PREVENTIVE EXAMINATIONS

The following preventive examinations are performed in our practice.

  • Preventive check-up for everyone aged 18 and over
  • Colorectal cancer screening for everyone aged 45 and over (FIT stool test annually or colonoscopy every 10 years); further details can be found in the Endoscopy section
  • Internal preoperative evaluation ("surgical clearance")
  • Mother-Child Pass examination
  • Driving licence medical certificate (private service)
  • Blood sugar management (Diabetes mellitus)
  • Determination of body composition with BIA (bioelectrical impedance analysis): private service
  • Spirometry (lung function): for all smokers if symptomatic or annually from age 40
  • Evaluation of hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and thyroid nodules

Diagnostic services

Here you will find our range of diagnostic services for preventive care.

  • Blood sampling directly in the practice: Blood, stool, urine analyses
     
  • Screening colonoscopy:  Details see Endoscopy section
     
  • BIA measurement (bioelectrical impedance analysis) to determine body composition (body fat percentage, visceral fat, skeletal muscle mass). Adjunct to weight loss and in therapy with a GLP-1 analogue (weight-loss injection): private service
     
  • Thyroid ultrasound
     
  • Thyroid values (blood test)

For further examinations, we cooperate with selected specialists in the same building MED22 (diagnostic centre with extensive radiology/CT/MRI) and externally.

Frequently asked questions - Preventive care

In Austria, preventive colonoscopy (colonoscopy for early detection of colorectal cancer) is generally recommended for individuals with average risk from the age of 45 and is covered by statutory health insurance as a preventive examination.

If findings are unremarkable, a preventive colonoscopy is generally recommended every 10 years.

For appointment scheduling please contact us by telephone during the practice hours or use our callback service. If you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment, please understand that without a timely written cancellation we must charge a flat administrative fee. (Details in the appointment cancellation section). A parking space is available for visitors of MED22 and iMed22 covers the parking fees of our patients for up to 3 hours. However, availability of a parking space cannot be guaranteed, which is why travel by public transport is recommended.
